Pool Coping

Different types of coping are used in different parts of the country. In areas that have extreme weather conditions, coping is used at the edge of the pool and it is seperated from the decking. Coping is also used to accent a pool, defining its shape and look, while seperating it from the decking.

cast cement PoolDesignStudio.com - cement coping

The most common coping material is made of concrete. The preformed and manufactured pieces arrive at the site and are set in place to create the edge of the pool. It butts up to, but does not touch, the surrounding deck, leaving an expansion joint to deal with the changes in temperatures.

PoolDesignStudio.com - stone coping stone

Like the coping made of cement, stone can be used to create the top lip of the swimming pool. Stone is beautiful and it provides the perfect compliment to the waterline. We grind the inside edge smooth of all the stones used for coping.

brick PoolDesignStudio.com - brick coping

Just as stone is often used as coping, so is brick. Pool builders can obtain special bullnosed brick that is rounded at the water's edge and made to give swimming pools a unique look. It is comfortable on bare feet.

PoolDesignStudio.com - cantilevered deck coping cantilevered deck

Perhaps the best known look in the cantilevered deck. It is used extensively in climates that are susceptible to extreme weather changes (not used in Houston) and it allows pool owners to take their decking, no matter what material they use, right up to and overhanging the pool's edge.
